3 Tools That Actually Help Authors with
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
Support those wrists!
Hands up if you are a writer and suffer from the dreaded Carpal Tunnel Syndrome or Ulnar Nerve Compression!
Okay, hands down, rest those arms.
If you don’t know what it is here is a blog explaining it by the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke. (No affiliation with this blog. )Their explanation is excellent as well as their in depth explanation of the symptoms and treatments. Check it out below:

I’ve had Carpal Tunnel Syndrome for about 6 yrs now. And have recently been looking into Carpal Tunnel surgery. Which has been a whole other stories on it’s on. I have to do more in depth tests, but the Dr. believes we might be dealing with a Ulnar Nerve Compression issue, not Carpal Tunnel. More on that to come. For now, the records state my wrist pain as Carpal Tunnel, so we’ll stick with that for now.
I’ve learned over the years that it’s not going away and my career as an Author will be hurt if I don’t do something more to help sooth the pain. I’ve tried a few different natural remedies. Such as specific vitamins, calcium, changing my diet, exercise, stretches, wrist support bands, etc.
Only a few of these made a small difference in my carpal tunnel. Alas, no long term solution so far. Thus, the current deep dive into Carpal Tunnel and Ulnar Nerve Compression.
During the past months I’ve been testing a few office pieces to help me with the wrist pain and have had some success!
I will admit, I had no clue how much of an impact on your body, using specific desks, keyboards, and even chairs had until this year. Just never thought about how it all affects your body as a whole. Sounds like a DUH moment right? HAHA I got a good giggle out of it. 😂

- Stand-up desk
- Elevated Ergonomic keyboard: Amazon link
- Ergonomic mouse
Let’s dive into the Test and Reviews of these
Ergonomic items.
Do they help sooth the dreaded Carpal Tunnel Syndrome or Ulnar Nerve Compression pain?
- Stand-up desk
Amazon link: https://a.co/d/8uYWD7A
I bought this version of the stand up desk for many reasons. No regrets on this one.
Does it sooth the pain? YES IT DOES!
Pro’s
- Goes on top of table/desk
- The price was just in between the cheapest and most expensive
- It’s large with two monitor holding arms
- Came in white
- has 4.6 star review
- height adjustable with a single under desk button allowing me to sit or stand at work whenever I want.
- Easy set up. Took me maybe 3 hours to set it up completely.(includes decorating time)
I’ve had the stand up desk for under a week at this point. Absolutely love it.
Having the chance to stand first thing in the morning and keep my legs moving has been a huge benefit. The desk smoothly adjusts to sitting and standing height without a single issue.
I’ve added a few plants and small décor to it.
Con’s
- keyboard holder is just a smidge to short for ergonomic keyboards to fit with some spare wrist support.
- Slightly front heavy making the front wobbly(it doesn’t feel like it will fall over, I’ve got some adjusting to try with the monitor arms.)
- Needs about 10 more wire holding organizers. I love how they provided a few at all. LIKE BRILLIANT addition or what!
As you can already see, I love it so far. Now it’s time to see how it does over the next few months. Wish me luck!
2. Elevated Ergonomic keyboard
Amazon link: https://a.co/d/4akII1h
My current keyboard must be the old Microsoft version. The linked keyboard is the best match to the one I currently use. Same brand with small color and design changes.
Does it sooth the pain? Oh you bet your cat it does!
Pro’s
- The keyboard design has made a huge difference in relief for my wrists.
- sturdy long lasting keyboard
- wide wrist support band
- smooth keys
- feels natural for my arms resting positions
- affordable price
Con’s
- Not really a great laptop companion. I can’t just sit on the couch and write with a laptop. I have to have the laptop and plugged in large ergonomic keyboard.
- Loud! I didn’t think there was a difference but there is. It’s louder than a normal keyboard.
- No going back to a normal keyboard.
- It does take a few weeks to adjust your typing patterns with the spaced out keys. But, the time it takes is worth it.
- more expensive compared to a normal keyboard
- Limit customization options, no fun colors, or keys just plain and simple.
Sometimes it feels like I’m missing out on the customizable options of normal keyboards. But, again, worth every penny, every minute learning to type on the weird angle. I love my ergonomic keyboard and I thank Work for introducing them to me first! Thank you ART TEAM AND HR!!
3. Ergonomic mouse
Amazon link: https://a.co/d/e8jvWLg
Does it sooth the pain? At first it doesn’t, adjustment period. But then it does sooth the wrist pain.
Pro’s
- A more natural grip for your hand
- Comfortable angle for the wrist and fingers
- smooth
- helps alleviate pressure off of the palm and wrists
- Overall a very comfortable mouse
Con’s
- takes some time to get used to
- a very odd shape for a mouse, doesn’t fit under things as easily as a flat mouse does
- Tad bit more expensive and not as easy to find in normal stores
My mouse was also provided by the company I work for and I’ve gotta say, I did not like it at first. It took me a few weeks before I felt comfortable with this odd shaped mouse. But, just like most things ergonomic once you adjust to them, they feel more natural and are very comfortable to use.
