Bulk Books Misprints
What to do About it.
Author powers that I consider pretty darn awesome are being able to order your books in bulk from a Printing company.
I have order in mini bulk a few times. No crates of books yet. Just 20 to 50 books once or twice.
When I see the large thick box under my mailbox at my apartment it’s a magical moment.
5 years ago I would not have even thought this was possible. Now I’m an author of two books and ordering in mini bulk.
*I called it mini bulk due to it not being 100 plus books in one order. It’s a goal for my author career though!
I’ve used INGRAMSPARK for my books as a self published author. It’s not free, however, I feel the investment has been well worth it.
Check out IngramSpark online and see if they are a good fit for your publishing journey.

Buying in Bulk
Mishaps and what to do
I’ve ordered a few smaller quantity of books for book signings. After inspecting the books I found out a few were not up to standard quality I need my books to be.
What mistakes to look for.
Know your book. No printing services is perfect however if you compare each book some things might be standing out to you that need to be fixed.
- color quality of each book
- missing pages
- pages printed in the wrong place
- the order of the pages might get mixed up
- Off center
- ripped pages
- book covers bent or ripped
These are a few issues to keep your eyes out for. I’ve experienced a few of my bulk orders arriving with several of these issues. No one is perfect.
If and when this happens to you. Here’s my tips.
How to deal with it.
Take pictures of any and all issues. Make sure you have good lighting and can prove these mistakes matter. Don’t be a “Karen”. Mistakes happen. Be professional.
Call, email, or direct chat with the printing company you ordered the books through.
Show them the mistakes, be professional and polite. Ask for a refund or replacements of the mistake books.
That’s it~
In my experience, the printing services replaced the books. I was told to toss the mistake books and wait for the new books. Overall, an easy fix. You have to be patient. But that’s okay.
See, that’s not so bad after all. Yes, it’s more work and will take up to 2 to 6 weeks depending on the bulk order size and printing company. Ehh but, it’s a process worth being patient for.
TIP~
Always give your printing company 6 weeks or more for big bulk orders to arrive. Try to order way ahead so if something like this happens. You still have a small window to fix the issue and get your books back in time for your event, whatever that might be.
All the best to you Authors! You got this. Grab that coffee and snack. Your books are coming and you are making dreams come true one week at a time.
